About Me
As superintendent of Utica Community Schools since 2006, Dr. Christine Johns has worked to promote a culture where every child succeeds. Student performance outpaces all state and national averages and is currently at one of its highest levels in the district’s history. As superintendent, Dr. Christine Johns leads a district with a graduation rate of 90 percent – 14 points over the state average – and high schools that have been honored by Newsweek Magazine as among the best in the nation.
Under the leadership of Dr. Christine Johns, Utica Community Schools offers a portfolio of career and college preparatory programs, including advanced placement courses that have earned official College Board recognition for student participation and success. Subject-specific secondary programs such as the Utica Center for Science and Industry help students ready themselves for in-demand jobs.
Also instrumental in optimizing the use of technology in the classroom, she is a founding member of the League of Innovative Schools through the national Digital Promise initiative. This Congressionally-chartered organization encourages innovative technology integration in public schools. Dr. Christine Johns has presented nationally on the district’s blended learning model and the significant impact the program has had on student achievement.
Dr. Christine Johns was most recently honored with a People's Choice Award from Leadership Macomb as Superintendent of the Year and nationally as a Tech-Savvy Superintendent of the Year by eSchool News.
